The seminar on integrated governance of natural resources was held in Ilomantsi on 7-8 June 2016. The seminar was organized by the Institute for Natural Resources, Environment and Society, University of Eastern Finland.

Founded in the 1950s, Mirny has become one of the world's most important origin for diamonds, making the Russian Federation one of the global leaders in diamond production. The blog post by Gerald Zojer describes some of the information he was able to gather during the UArctic PhD- and Masters course “Resource governance between global theories and local approaches”, which was held from 16th to 22nd of February 2016.

The research seminar on mining and environmental impact assessment (EIA) brought together researchers from different countries and disciplines. The event was organized by the University of Eastern Finland on 7-8 May 2015. The Northern Institute for Environmental and Minority Law was represented by Anna Petrétei. Mining research is one of the core topics of the HuSArctic project, as extractive industrial activities are amongst the main security threats within our focus area.
